Ganesh (T-120) 'Charger' — The King of Ranthambore's Lakes

Ganesh (T-120), the mock-charging male of Zones 3–4, is Riddhi's mate, father of Shubh and the 2026 cubs — and, through his mother Chanda, a great-great-grandson of Machhli himself.

The dominant male of Ranthambore's lake zones today is Ganesh, coded T-120 — a heavy, fearless tiger the guides also call Charger, for his habit of walking straight at safari vehicles with a rumble that empties memory cards and stops conversations. He is the mate of Riddhi (T-124), the father of her cubs including Shubh (T-2505), and — a fact many visitors miss — royal-blooded himself: through his mother he descends directly from Machhli (T-16).

Lineage: Krishna's Grandson

Ganesh was born around September 2018 in the park's non-tourism interior. His mother was Chanda (T-63), a daughter from the first litter of Krishna (T-19) born in 2011. That makes Ganesh a grandson of Krishna and a great-great-grandson of Machhli — so the lake-side cubs he has fathered with Riddhi carry the founding bloodline on both sides, a genetic closing-of-the-circle you can trace on our tiger family tree. Riddhi herself is Krishna's granddaughter through Arrowhead, making the ruling pair second cousins of a sort only a pedigree chart can love.

Winning the Lakes

A male born outside the tourism zones has one path to fame: take territory that tourists can see. Ganesh emerged into the safari circuit as a young male around 2020–21, and by 2022 he had pushed out rivals to claim the park's crown-jewel real estate — a large territory spanning Zones 3 and 4, holding Rajbagh, Malik Talao and the approaches to Padam Talao. It is the same ground the Star Male (T-28) ruled a decade before him, and it overlaps the ranges of several breeding tigresses, Riddhi first among them.

His reign has been consequential fast. He fathered Riddhi's June 2023 litter — T-2504, Shubh (T-2505) and T-2506 — and is the presumed father of the cub Riddhi was seen with in the Naal Ghati area in June 2026. Field reports from 2026 note him actively courting multiple tigresses across his range, which is exactly what a dominant male in his prime does.

Why "Charger"?

The nickname is honestly earned. Ganesh mock-charges — a fast, stiff-legged advance at a vehicle or a rival, stopping short in a cloud of dust. It is dominance display, not hunting behaviour, and experienced drivers respond calmly and give him room; there is no record of him harming a visitor. But no tiger in the park today produces the same voltage in a jeep at thirty metres, and plenty of Ranthambore regulars rate a Ganesh charge above any sighting except a hunt. His other name honours the elephant-headed god whose Trinetra Ganesh temple stands inside Ranthambore Fort, right at the heart of his territory.

Seeing Ganesh on Safari

Book Zones 3 or 4 and go in the dry months, when tigers concentrate at water — our best time to visit and safari booking guides cover the mechanics. A male's beat is long, so sightings come in streaks: he may work Rajbagh for days, then vanish along the ridge toward Lakarda. Watch for the signs guides read — fresh scrape marks on the track, sambar alarm calls off the lake — and remember that with Riddhi's 2026 cubs in the landscape, the whole family's movements orbit the lake circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ganesh (T-120) related to Machhli?

Yes. His mother Chanda (T-63) was a daughter of Krishna (T-19), Machhli's daughter — making him Machhli's great-great-grandson, and his cubs with Riddhi doubly of Machhli's line.

Which cubs has Ganesh fathered?

Riddhi's June 2023 litter — T-2504, Shubh (T-2505) and T-2506 — and he is the presumed father of her third-litter cub seen in June 2026 near Naal Ghati.

Is the Charger dangerous to tourists?

He mock-charges vehicles as a dominance display, which is intimidating but has not harmed visitors. Drivers keep respectful distance and back away when he closes; standard safari discipline applies.

Where is Ganesh's territory?

Zones 3 and 4 — the Rajbagh, Malik Talao and Padam Talao lake circuit and its flanking valleys, the historical seat of Ranthambore's ruling males. See the safari zones guide.
