Ranthambore Safari Timings — Morning & Evening Slots
Ranthambore safari timings change with the season. Morning safaris run at sunrise; evening safaris close before sunset. Know the exact timings before you book your Ranthambore tiger safari.
Planning a Ranthambore safari requires understanding the park's seasonal timing schedule. Safari timings at Ranthambore National Park are set by the Forest Department and change throughout the year to align with sunrise and sunset. Booking the correct slot — and arriving on time — is essential, as late arrivals forfeit their permits without refund.
Ranthambore Safari Timings by Season
October – February (Winter)
Morning Safari: 06:30 – 10:00 hrs. Evening Safari: 14:30 – 18:00 hrs. Winter mornings are cold (temperatures can drop to 4–8°C), so carry a warm layer. The clear skies and golden morning light make this the best season for photography. Tiger sightings are excellent as animals congregate around water bodies in the cooler hours.
March – April (Summer Onset)
Morning Safari: 06:00 – 09:30 hrs. Evening Safari: 15:30 – 19:00 hrs. Temperatures begin rising sharply. Wildlife moves to lakeshores and waterholes, making this an excellent time for concentrated sightings. The Flame of the Forest is in full bloom, creating spectacular photographic backdrops.
May – June (Peak Summer)
Morning Safari: 05:30 – 09:00 hrs. Evening Safari: 16:00 – 19:30 hrs. The hottest months see temperatures exceeding 40°C. However, this is paradoxically one of the best times for tiger sightings — with water scarce, tigers and their prey are forced to the remaining water bodies, where sightings can be spectacular and prolonged.
Park Closure — Monsoon Season
Ranthambore National Park closes annually from 1st July to 30th September for the monsoon season. This closure allows the forest to regenerate undisturbed, gives staff time for infrastructure maintenance, and provides the wildlife with a critical rest period free from human presence. The park reopens in October.
Morning vs Evening Safari — Which is Better?
Both slots offer excellent wildlife viewing. Morning safaris generally yield better photography light and are more productive for sightings of tigers, as the animals are active after the cool night. Evening safaris offer the chance to see animals moving back to waterholes before dark, beautiful golden-hour light, and a different atmosphere as the forest quietens for the night. Serious tiger enthusiasts book both slots on the same day to maximise their chances.
Booking and Arrival Tips
All safari permits must be booked in advance through the official Rajasthan Forest Department booking portal or through authorised operators. Gates open 30 minutes before the safari start time — arrive early. The forest gate closes exactly at the start time, and no vehicle may enter after this point.
