By Road
Kota is well connected by road to the rest of Rajasthan. The original Darrah entry point sits on the Kota–Jhalawar road, roughly 50 to 56 km from the city. Since August 2026, travelers heading for the new Borabas Range safari route no longer need to make that longer trip — the Daulatganj gate sits much closer to Kota city itself, cutting a significant chunk off the drive. From Sawai Madhopur, the gateway town for Ranthambore, Mukundra is around 130 km by road, generally a two-and-a-half to three-hour drive.
By Rail
Kota Junction is one of the busiest railheads on the Delhi–Mumbai main line, with frequent express and superfast trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur. The rail distance from Sawai Madhopur to Kota is about 108 km, typically covered in just over an hour on direct trains, making the train a fast and comfortable option for travelers coming from Ranthambore.
By Air
Kota does not yet have a functioning commercial airport. The nearest working airport is Jaipur International, roughly 250 to 260 km away by road. A dedicated Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport has been approved and is under construction about 25 km from the city, with operations targeted to begin by December 2027 — until then, Jaipur remains the practical air gateway, with a road or rail connection onward to Kota.
Combining Mukundra Hills with a Ranthambore Trip
Because several of Mukundra's tigers, including Lightning (T-83), were translocated directly from Ranthambore, the two reserves are part of the same conservation story rather than separate detours. With roughly three hours of road travel or just over an hour by train separating Sawai Madhopur and Kota, it is straightforward to pair a Ranthambore safari with a quieter Mukundra jungle safari and Chambal river safari on the same trip. Full pricing and route details are covered in the Mukundra Hills safari cost guide.
